Assault Bill – New York State Professional Process Servers Association

Four years after legislation was first introduced to protect process servers in the state of New York our wishes were granted. The legislature finally gave us the protection and respect that we so richly deserve. Early this morning, the NY State legislature passed NYSPPSA’s bill changing the degree of crime of assaulting a process server from a misdemeanor to a class D felony.

As President of NYSPPSA, I wish to thank all those who contributed, including my Legislative co-chair, Gail Kagan, who has worked tirelessly on the bill. I would be remiss if I didn’t thank Assemblyman Gary Pretlow, a true friend of NYSPPSA and process servers in New York State, who will finally receive the respect they desire.
